It feels great to do this again. The fact that I could do it again for the second time puts me one step closer to consistency.
So I started Alt-School Africa March this year; prior to that, my only exposure to technology was just plain HTML, which I was learning on W3schools during the Covid-19 year. Well, at point last year, I also started the "Google IT support professional certification" course. The Google's IT support certification is made up of five courses, which walks you through the fundamentals of information technology. I finished the first of the series, the "Technical Support Fundamentals". i somehow lost the motivation to continue and that was how i stopped it.
First week into the first semester, we were asked to set up our LMS. Our lecture content for the week is usually uploaded to our LMS platform at the start of the week. We get to have two 2-hour live class sessions weekly, and the topic of the live classes is usually centered on whatever was on the LMS that week.
The first semester of Alt-School was pretty much chilled, at least relatively. HTML, CSS, and Java script were required for all engineering tracks. To be honest, I don't remember much about the first semester, which is another reason I should have started this documentation sooner... but better late than never, I suppose.
I wasn't too serious about my first semester because I felt the whole HTML and co weren't really necessary for me as a prospective cloud personnel. Everything in my head at the time was when we'd start dissecting AWS, Azure, and the like. This actually affected me because i had to start rushing to catch up when exam came.
I've always been this "anyhow wey e wan be, I go sha rough am" person. Been carrying this mentality since my University days, i don't think it has ever failed me๐ (A quick disclaimer: if i repeated this pattern in the second semester, i would have failed horribly). first semester just had me doing the barest minimum to cross over to the next semester.
I'd say Alt-school is competitive to some extent because the cut-off for entering the second semester was 65%, and remember the entrance exam bench mark was also 85%. The first semester results were released, and I had a perfect 65%, which was some lucky ass shit because that was the exact cut off mark to proceed to the next semester. We were graded on a cumulative basis of assignments, attendance at weekly live classes, and how far you had progressed on the LMS content.
We were divided into circles halfway through the semester to facilitate learning amongst one another, so when the semester ended, each circle was asked to build projects, I'm not sure if we were asked to work on any project of our choice or if we were given specific projects to work on, it was optional though...turns out no one cares in my own group, which is how we ended up not doing anything in my group. Unserious kids๐๐
That was basically summary of how my first semester in Alt school went. My Second semester had me literally fighting for my life...
See you soon.
